Galway v Mayo - Football greats meet up for podcast

Mayo's John Maughan and John Casey, and Galway's Kevin Walsh and Ray Silke, met up earlier in the week at Breaffy House Hotel to preview this Sunday's Connacht final and cast an eye on the All-Ireland championship itself.

The podcast of their conversation and musings can be watched at and is now available on line.

As well as the preview of Sunday's game ,and predictions of which four teams will advance to the All-Ireland semi-finals, an which team will take this year’s title, there was some good banter and humour in the debate.

At one stage John Maughan bemoans the fact that Mayo played their All-Star corner back and captain Keith Higgins in the forwards in last year's All-Ireland championship.

He suggests it is not a policy he would advocate, or believe in, and would not play Higgins as a forward if he were Mayo manager.

He laboures the point a bit, and pays a heavy price for doing so, when his former player John Casey steps  in and nails him with the following riposte: "Didn't you play our captain Kenny Mortimer, (an All-Star in 1996 and 1997 ) as a forward yourself in the Connacht final and All-Ireland semi-final in 1999."
