Mary Coughlan - one night in Druid

MARY COUGHLAN, Ireland’s leading jazz and blues vocalist, plays the Druid Mick Lally Theatre on Tuesday July 29, where she will be joined by Dutch guitarist Erik Visser who produced her debut album Tired and Emotional.

The concert will be filmed by director Martha O’Neill and Wildfire Films for a new hour long TV documentary based on the Shantalla born singer’s best selling autobiography, Bloody Mary.

The show re-unites Mary with long-time friend Visser, with whom she first performed with in 1984 as support to The Flyin’ Pickets at the old Great Southern Hotel.

“I met Erik in Galway in the late 1970s when his Dutch band Flairck, who were selling out concert halls all over Europe at the time, played a free open air concert in Eyre Square,” recalls Mary. “Erik has been the one constant in my life over the past 30 years, since he suggested we make a record in 1984 and the resultant album he produced. Tired and Emotional changed my life utterly.”

Among the many highlights of that album was the Johnny Mulhearn penned 'Delaney's Gone Back On The Wine'.

The concert will feature music from that album as well from across Mary’s 30 year carrer.
