2014 Croí charity cycle event set to be the biggest yet

On of the biggest annual charity cycles in the west of Ireland will take place on Sunday June 15 in aid of local heart and stroke charity Croí.

Now in its 19th year, the annual Croí Tour de Lough Corrib Cycle Challenge is set to be the biggest yet, with upwards of 1,000 competitors expected to participate. This year’s event is part of the Galway Bike Festival, which runs from June 14 to June 22, and the cycle offers the choice of a 45km or 120km route. Once again, Irish and international cycling legend Sean Kelly is lending his support to this fundraising event and will join cyclists on the day.

Since it was started 19 years ago the main sponsors of this event have been local company Corrib Oil. Announcing its sponsorship of this year’s cycle, Corrib Oil’s Eugene Dalton said, “We are delighted to be associated with this major west of Ireland charity event in the knowledge that the funds raised directly support the great work of Croí in supporting those affected by heart disease and stroke.”

Entry to the cycle is free but participants are asked to raise funds in support of Croí’s work in the local community. Cyclists can enter online on www.croi.ie/cycle
