Róisín Dubh Tenth Birthday Weekender

AND SO I Watch You From Afar, Dott, Delorentos, Le Galaxie, and Phill Jupitus will gather in the Róisín Dubh next weekend to celebrate the venue’s 10th birthday.

In 2004, the Róisín was taken over by Kevin and Greg Healy, Gugai, and Simon Heaslip who transformed it into one of Ireland’s most exciting and prestigious live venues, hosting gigs by leading and emerging musicians and comedians.

Now in 2014, to celebrate a major milestone, the cream of Irish indie-rock and some great Irish and British comedians will be performing at the venue from June 12 - 15.

The weekender starts on Thursday June 12 at 8pm when Strange Brew presents the indomitable Delorentos, the indie-mania of Fight Like Apes, and the punk/garage/left-field pop of So Cow, followed by a DJ set from Gugai.

Friday 13 is usually associated with bad luck but a free show featuring the brilliant Dott, who mix girl-group harmonies and garage rock rawness, and electro singer-songwriter Elaine Mai, promises to be nothing short of classy and fun. Support is from We Shoot Deserters, Tracy Bruen, New Pope, Slyrydes, and Zero Era. The Hive - Cian Ó Cíobháin and Cyril Briscoe - will be DJing afterwards.

The big night is Saturday 14 when Antrim post-rockers And So I Watch You From Afar take to the stage. Since their emergence in the mid-noughties, ASIWYFA have emerged as the most imaginative and forward thinking post-rock band, giving the genre a much needed injection of energy and innovation as evidenced on their finest, most ambitious, album to date, All Hail Bright Futures.

Support is from the exuberant and energetic indie-electro/space-rockers Le Galaxie, along with Meltybrains. Doors are at 8pm.

Concluding the weekend will be a great mix of Irish and British comedians - Phill Jupitus, Steven Frost, Joe Rooney, and Ian Coppinger - performing improv on Sunday 15. Doors are at 8pm.

Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, the Ticket Desk at OMG Zhivago, Shop Street, and The Róisín Dubh.
