Nigerian star D’Banj to play Leisureland

THE NIGERIAN Afro-beat and r’n’b star D’Banj and the Mohits All-stars will play the Koko Revelation Concert in Leisureland, Salthill, on Monday August 4.

D’Banj is a massive star in Nigeria, where his fusion of Afro-bear and r’n’b has made him a household name. He has enjoyed success with his albums No Long Thing, Why Me, Move Your Body, Booty Call, and Run Down Funk Down.

His debut album included the phrase ‘What’s the Koko?’ which has become a catchphrase throughout Nigeria. D’Banj is sometimes referred to as the Kokomaster and his female fans are called Kokolets.

It is understood that D’Banj is planing to announce who his prized Kokolet is and he has named Ireland the destination for this revelation.

D’Banj’s popularity and massive youth following earned for him several titles both within and outside Nigeria. He was named UN Youth Ambassador for Peace in Nigeria and he has received a host of music awards including Best African Act award in the MTV Europe awards in Germany, Nigerian music awards artist of the year award, Ghana Music Best African Artist Award, and a MOBO nomination for Best African Act 2007.

D’Banj and his producer Don Jazzy - from the Mohits Records stable, which rules the charts, airwaves and dance floors in Nigeria - will be joined by the Mohits Allstars Wande Coal, Dr, Sid, D’Prince, and K’Switch, who frequently embark on shows to support charities. As a result proceeds from the concert will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland and the Irish Society for Autism.
