Awards for Galway basketball players

Competitors between the ages of 8 and 15 from all over Ireland battled the sea and the wind on Galway Bay last weekend for the Connacht Optimist championship sponsored by the Port of Galway and Supervalue,Oranmore.

Four Galwegians have been named as winners at the annual Basketball Ireland awards.

Kenneth Hansberry of Maree Basketball Club has been named the men’s division one u-23 Player of the Year, while Maree coach John Finn took men’s division one Coach of the Year award.

Eoin Rockall of Calasanctius College, Galway, won two awards - the male u16 Schools Player of the Year and also the prestigious international award in the same age group.

In Wheelchair Basketball, Keith Connolly of Galway Titans Wheelers, was the named men's Player of the Year.
