FG candidate Michelle Murphy urges vote for jobs and stability

Michelle Murphy, Fine Gael Local Election candidate in Galway City West, is urging Galwegians to vote for jobs, stability and growth for their local region when considering their No 1 vote tomorrow.

Cllr Murphy, regional manager for Collins McNicholas Recruitment & HR for the past 14 years, works on a daily basis assisting individuals across the city seeking employment.

Cllr Murphy believes the west of the city needs to be sold as a prime location for such investment, having previously attracted Aviva and Zenimax Gaming to the region.

“On meeting my constituents based in Knocknacarra, Taylors Hill, Rahoon and The Claddagh, many people have highlighted firstly the need for more employment opportunities in general for the city and also the need to bring more investment over to the west of the city rather than having people commute across the city to take up employment on the east side,” she says.

Cllr Murphy says if elected she will be vocal on improving what the city has to offer in order to attract such investment, encourage enterprise locally, and lobby the Government to ensure Galway is firmly on the map for future investment opportunities.

She has recently liaised with An Taoiseach Enda Kenny because she believes Galway city has been slow to get a fair share of investment in comparison with other parts of the country over the last 12 to 18 months.

In Galway the Live Register has fallen by 16 per cent since Fine Gael entered Government, she says. Despite announcements earlier this year, including 250 jobs at Zenimax in March, 200 jobs at HP, and 138 jobs at Rossport Pharmaceutical, Cllr Murphy feels Galway still needs further investment in order to keep the city’s graduates and experienced workers employed and contributing to the local economy to aid recovery.

“If elected, I will work to ensure the continuation of the plan to create jobs and local enterprise, to support families and households, and to empower local communities in Galway.”
