Mayfly 10k challenge to raise awareness of mental health

The third annual Mayfly 10k challenge will take place in Oughterard on Saturday May 24 at 1.30pm.

The race hopes to draw attention to the stigma around mental health issues and raise awareness of mental health problems.

Happening in conjunction with See Change, the National Mental Health Stigma Reduction Partnership, the race is sponsored by SSE Airtricity and all profits will go towards the construction of a local recreation park at Corribdale Grounds.

The winner of the Mayfly Challenge 2013 was Alan O’Shea from Cork, who came in at a time of 33:45.

Throughout May, 300,000 green ribbons will be distributed nationwide free of charge in conjunction with various community events, such as the Mayfly 10k Challenge, in the hope of sparking national conversation about mental health.
