Galway best for house sales in the west

House sales in 13 counties, including three from Connacht, are rising at a faster rate than Dublin, with Galway being the best performer in the west.

A new study by MyHome.ie shows that the number and value of transactions in Galway rose substantially during 2013, stating that there were 1,538 sales in Galway last year, up 32 per cent on the 1,170 from a year earlier.

This means that the market is growing at a quicker pace than in Dublin, where the number of transactions rosby just 17 per cent last year, with Galway city accounting for 381 of the country’s sales last year, with €78.5 million spent on city properties in 2013.

Outside Galway city, the most popular areas to buy property are in Ballinasloe, Tuam, and Oranmore, with Gort being the biggest riser of the year, where sales increased by 164 per cent from 25 in 2012 to 66 last year.

Other areas like Leitrim and Roscommon are growing but at a slower pace.
