Blind Date event in aid of Console at Clayton

Remember Cilla Black?

A “Blind Date” event in aid of the national suicide charity Console will take place at the Clayton Hotel, on Friday May 9 at 7.30pm.

The event, which is themed around the famous Cilla Black television programme, will be hosted by Phyllis Daly, with proceeds from the night going to Console.

Console Galway first opened its doors in Galway city in 2003 and focuses on raising funds for suicide prevention and to provide support to devastated people who have lost loved ones to suicide. Last year Console provided professional counselling support to thousands of people, including children as young as four years of age who had their lives torn apart as the result of losing someone to suicide.

In addition, Console runs a 24-hour suicide prevention and bereavement service 365 days a year across Ireland for anyone in suicidal distress or bereaved through suicide. The helpline is accessible through the national freephone number 1800 201 890.

This level of vital assistance costs millions each year, and Margaret Tierney, project development manager of Console Galway, said the Blind Date event will be a fun evening for all attending and most importantly it will raise the profile of Console, while also generating much needed funds. “Losing someone to suicide is particularly devastating and professional help is nearly always a must for people who battle with the total emotional destruction that such a death provokes in those left behind.

“Every penny raised in Galway from events such as this goes to helping people in Galway. We find that despite the economic pinch everyone is feeling, they still dig deeply into their pockets to help their fellow human beings who may be desperately low.”

As well as the actual ‘Blind Date’ event, patrons can enjoy a DJ until late, and a raffle on the night with a chance to win an 18k white gold ring with a blue topaz stone from Cara Diamonds valued at €2,000.

Tickets cost€10 per person and can be purchased directly at the Clayton Hotel or by contacting Bernie on [email protected] or 087-6684038.
