Croí, the West of Ireland Cardiac Foundation, is calling runners, walkers, and joggers to consider taking a big leap in the Big Apple at this year’s New York Marathon.
The charity has secured a number of guaranteed entries into this iconic world marathon and is seeking participants of all abilities to join its ‘Charity Challenge Team’. Completing a marathon and covering the distance of 26.2 miles (42.2km ) is on the bucket list of many, and to celebrate a milestone birthday, a wedding anniversary, or following a commitment made with friends over a few drinks, the New York Marathon is the holy grail for veteran runners and marathon-virgins alike.
However, the New York Marathon is nearly impossible to enter. That is where Croí, which is dedicated to promoting physical exercise and reducing the impact of cardiovascular disease, has stepped up to bridge the gap.
There is a natural synergy for Croí to be involved in these physical challenges because they provide a platform for the organisation to promote a healthy lifestyle and enables it to raise funds to support its work. Each year, Croí organises a package to bring approximately 20 runners and walkers to the major marathons around the world, including Berlin, New York, and London. “Running these big marathons is so much more rewarding when you involve a charity,” explains Barry McCann, Croí’s fundraising manager. “It gives you the extra motivation to keep going and you feel part of a bigger picture.”
The heart and stroke charity has a long reputation of ‘going the extra mile’ for its participants and many of them return for additional challenges. “Our marathon participants raise vital funds to support our life-saving work, and we make sure that they know how important they are to us,” added Mr McCann.
Each year, more than 45,000 participants take to the start line on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in New York after months of training and hard work. The marathon is an unforgettable experience and follows a 26.2 mile course that leads participants through the five boroughs of New York City finishing in Central Park. The roar of 2.5 million spectators en route creates a carnival atmosphere which encourages participants all the way to the finish line.
The Croí New York Marathon package includes flights, accommodation, guaranteed race entry, insurance, fundraising support, team gear, and a celebration dinner in New York after the marathon. Join the Croí Team for a professional trip, expert fundraising support, training advice, and an unforgettable experience in the Big Apple.
