Twelve-year-old Saoirse is youngest black belt in the west

A Galway kickboxer has become the youngest black belt in the west of Ireland.

Twelve-years-old Saoirse Joyce from Knocknacarra attained her black belt (Full Contact Style ) from the Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club.

She also won the club’s best overall student at the club’s recent prizegiving for junior members.

Other award winners were James Ward (13 ) of Castle Park who won the best male student award and Chelsea McConn (9 ) from Henry St, Galway, who was awarded the best female student prize.

All three students have been training at Black Dragon Gym for several years.
