Ceara Conway’s Making Visible

CEARA CONWAY’S Making Visible project, combining art, music, and politics, is coming to the 126 Gallery, Flood Street, this weekend.

Making Visible I & II is a series of performances created by Ceara in collaboration with Able Women, a group of women seeking asylum in Ireland.

During 2013 the artist met with group members to create a series artistic and political song and voice performances. Drawing upon the Irish lamenting tradition of Caoineadh, Ceara asked Able Women to choose a lament meaningful to them. They chose the issue of living within the Direct Provision system.

Making Visible I & II features excerpts from interviews and collaborations with singers and musicians Noirin Ní Rian, Veronika Ncube, Juliana Erkkonen, and Moises MasGracia. It runs from this Saturday to April 13. There is a preview tomorrow at 6pm.

As part of the exhibition, there will also be Vigil at 126 from April 7 to 11 from 6pm to 7pm. For each Vigil, individuals involved with Direct Provision will be invited to hold the space with the artist and to explore the issue through conversation and song. Vigil is open to the public.
