Fresh looks for spring

Fresh femininity and vibrant colours are the keynotes of the spring/summer collection from Brown Thomas Galway.

After winter’s dark palette it is time for primary tones, pretty pastels, and summer whites to brighten the mood.

The collections are mixed with key trends including Modern Romance, Art Pop, Tribal Beats, Sporting Spirit, Blossoms and Blooms, and White Wash.

Romance is in the air as designers flirt with overtly feminine looks and soft silhouettes incorporating ruffles and a pretty palette of pastels with a bouquet of floral prints.

Contrasting colours include pink with decorative whites and cool summery blues, all grounded with graphic black and white.

The Art Pop theme uses pieces with a pop-art spin using bold paint and brushstroke prints. Inspiration comes from optical art with the use of spray can and graffiti prints. Colour combinations are bold, primary and striking.

The Tribal Beats trend features fringing, beading, earth patterns and nomadic shapes while the sportswear theme races on, moving from the clinical looks of previous seasons to a more luxurious, glamorous edge.

The Isabel Marant Étoile range proves the bomber jacket remains a key piece. Embellished details along with intense sportswear brights, innovative fabrics and a Midas touch of metallic completes the collection.

The Blossoms and Blooms theme features as expected an abundance of flowers - the symbol of summer and femininity. Embellishment and embroidery brings these blooms to life as vivid prints and adornment are key themes.

Most collections feature white in some guise including brocade, pretty lacework, and chiffon. This season feminine tailoring replaces last season’s masculine influences. The very chic and minimalist COS, Helmut, and Rag & Bone collections encapsulate this White Wash trend.

Remember too to shimmer and shine this summer if you want to get noticed. Satin and metallic brings an injection of glamour with high-shine and iridescent shimmer setting the tone in a variety of hues.
