Q. I’m a 26-year-old female. I seem to be really prone to ingrown hairs particularly on my legs after shaving. Waxing has not helped much either. A friend recommended laser but I’m a little fearful and wonder does it really work as well as they say it does?

A. Firstly let me agree that in-grown hairs are a real nuisance and can be really quite sore.

Your friend was right to suggest laser hair removal. It really is a super treatment and is the only thing that will get rid of in-grown hairs. Stubble, shaving rashes, nicks and cuts will all become a thing of the past too! The trick is to go to a clinic offering what’s called medical grade laser. Some will offer what’s called IPL. With real laser, you’ll notice a significant difference after just one or two treatments.

My advice for now is to stop waxing, tweezing, bleaching, using depilatory creams, basically all forms of hair removal (apart from shaving which is permitted before your laser ) and pop into Therapie for a free patch test to ensure you are suitable for laser.

Once you are suitable, we will ask you to gently exfoliate the area the week before, and again the week after treatment. This will really help the in-gown hairs come out of the follicle more effectively.
