New Kia Carens impresses

The new Kia Carens MPV has been impressing people since it was launched this year.

Powered by the economical 1.7D engine that powers its Sportage stablemate, the Carens comes in a choice of three trim levels ( TX, EX and Platinum ) with a competitive starting price of €26,490.

Standard equipment for the entry level TX model includes alloy wheels, rear spoiler, LED daytime running lights, cornering lights, front and rear electric windows, luggage cargo screen, steering mounted audio controls, and voice activated Bluetooth.

The EX (€27,790 ) model adds auto light controls, LED rear lights, rear privacy glass, folding mirrors with puddle lamps, seat back tables, dual zone air conditioning, rear parking sensors and rear view camera, while the top of the range Platinum (€31,790 ) model adds luxury features like leather upholstery with heated front seats, 10-way power driver’s seat, panoramic sunroof, front parking sensors, and a supervision instrument cluster.

Safety as usual is a high priority with Kia and all models come with six airbags, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management and emergency stop signal.

The new bodyshell created for the new Carens incorporates Kia’s latest CAD techniques and structural lessons from recent Kia models. Manufactured with a high percentage of high-strength steel, the new bodyshell will contribute to new Carens earning an anticipated five-star rating in Euro NCAP crash safety tests.

With a sleek and sculpted design, the new Kia Carens marks a dramatic shift from the more utilitarian look of its predecessor. It features a spacious five-plus-two seating layout, a generously proportioned luggage bay and numerous stowage spaces, and wraps this family-friendly adaptability in more purposeful sheet metal.

The new Carens is shorter, narrower and lower than the previous-generation model (by 20mm, 15mm and 40mm, respectively ). However, cabin space is generous thanks to the new model’s increased wheelbase (up by 50mm ) and cab-forward design which places the base of the A-pillar above the front-wheel centre line. Its overall height is one of the lowest in class – giving the model a more sporty appearance.

But it is not all just nice styling and great functionality. The Carens also drives really well. With a factory seven-year warranty, there are many reasons to check out the new Kia Carens MPV.
