Romantic Ireland is not dead and gone

IRELAND WAS an inspiration to the 19th century Romantic movement, while the Irish Literary movement would inspire the imagination of the 1916 rebels.

Literature’s influence on society and politics, society and history’s influence on literature, esoteric myths, and contemporary concerns, will come together in The Secret Rose - Romantic Ireland, The Myth, The Music, The Poets, The Time.

The Secret Rose, produced and narrated by actor/writer Gerry Conneely, accompanied by Eileen Fleming on harp, is to be performed in The Reading Room, The Lady Gregory Hotel, Gort, on Saturday November 23 at 8pm.

Conneely and Fleming will seek to bring the audience on a journey taking in Romantic poets from Blake to WB Yeats; look at how Ireland became the rising star of the Romantic movement; how the Irish Literary movement inspired the 1916 Rising; and the role of Cu Chuliann in the Irish poetic and literary imagination.

Tickets are €10 from the Lady Gregory Hotel; Beatty’s Jewellery Shop, Loughrea; and from Members of the Lady Gregory Yeats Heritage Trail Group. See www.ladygregoryyeats.com
