Joyces’ Supermarket contributes to €35,000 donation for The Irish Hospice Foundation

Joyce’s Supermarket’s Athenry, Headford, Knocknacarra and Tuam helped to raise €35,000 for The Irish Hospice Foundation through the Making A Difference Locally (MADL ) charity.

The stores join nine other independent convenience stores, all members of retail group Nisa, based in the Republic of Ireland to contribute to the donation.

The money was raised in each store through the sale of participating products, including the entire Heritage own label range, where a proportion of the cost of the product is allocated to a MADL fund which can then be donated to a chosen charity.

Making A Difference Locally is an independent charity registered in the UK in 2008 with the intention of assisting more than 2,000 independent retailers throughout the UK and Ireland raise money for local and national charities. More than £2.75million (€3.25 million ) has been donated since the charity was established.

Pat Joyce of Joyces Supermarket, said: “Joyce’s Supermarket are proud to be associated with The Irish Hospice Foundation donation of €35,000”

Sharon Foley, CEO of The Irish Hospice Foundation said: “On behalf of The Irish Hospice Foundation I would like to thank the Making A Difference Locally charity, the retailers, their staff and customers for supporting our work. This financial support is hugely important to us as we receive no core state funding.

“Thanks to MADL’s help we can continue to operate our Hospice Home Care for Children Programme, which funds a team of children’s outreach nurses who help coordinate the care that is delivered to seriously ill children and their families in the community. It also helps us fund our Nurse for Night Care Service, a service for people with illnesses other than cancer which enables more people to fulfil their wish to die at home with dignity. These are just some of the important and impactful programmes that are possible because of public support. Thank you for helping us to make a difference for others across Ireland. ”
