Keady commends home support for Galway WFC

Galway WFC will be hoping to return to winning ways when they host Dublin side DLR Waves in the Bus Éireann WNL in Eamonn Deacy Park, Terryland, on Sunday (2pm ).

Nigel Keady’s side suffered a disappointing result in Wexford last weekend when despite coming from behind twice, they eventually lost the game 4-2.

Susie Cunningham and Lynsey McKey were the scorers for Galway, but the league’s top scorer, Sinead Taylor, was unlucky not to convert a second-half penalty for the Galway women which would have swung the game in their favour.

This weekend they return to familiar surroundings which will give them added confidence against the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown outfit that sits just above Galway on the league table in sixth place. They have enjoyed wins over Cork, Shamrock Rovers, and Galway, in addition to a 2-2 draw with Wexford.

However Keady is hoping the home support will help swing Sunday’s game in Galway’s favour.

“When we played DLR earlier in the season we came out on the wrong side of a 3-2 score line in a thrilling match. The atmosphere generated by the fans in Eamonn DeacyPark so far this season has been wonderful. Hopefully with the home support behind us we will be able to reverse the result this time out.”

Keady may have to plan once again without Lucy Hannon, who has an ankle injury and missed the trip to Wexford.

“We are lucky to have a strong squad as we have picked up a number of injuries since the start of the season. However those who have come in as replacements have all stepped up to the mark.”

Tickets are available on the gate - €5 for adults with admission for children free.
