TONY CALLANAN, originally lead singer with Stockton’s Wing, has published his first novel, Encounters.
Enounters will be launched this evening at 8pm in Tony’s home town of Loughrea, in the Loughrea Library. It is a historical tour-de-force which sweeps from post-Celtic Tiger Ireland all the way back to the Civil War.
The poet Kevin Higgins said of Encounters: “This is, in many ways the story of modern Ireland, of how it became the country it is. If you want to understand how the split in republicanism, which led to the Civil War, impacted on the lives of ordinary Irish men and women, read this book.
“If you want to know what it was like to live in a small town such as Loughrea in County Galway, in the middle decades of the 20th century, when the Catholic Church in Ireland was at the zenith of its power read this novel.”
