Boston Scientific’s employee contributions to Galway Hospice go over the million euro mark

Boston Scientific, the worldwide developer, manufacturer and marketer of medical devices, has announced that this October, the figure contributed by employees to the Galway Hospice Foundation has reached €1,000,000.

Since 1997, the employees of Boston Scientific have contributed to the fundraising for Galway Hospice through the Hospice's weekly draw. Membership of the weekly draw costs €1.27 per week and players can be in with a chance of winning one of two prizes, €1,000 and €100. The money raised from contributions is used by Galway Hospice to fund their day care and home care services to patients with active and progressive diseases which cannot be cured.

On reaching the milestone seven-figure sum, Mike O’Flynn, Managing Director and VP Operations Boston Scientific said, “The weekly draw is a major source of income for the Hospice and we are delighted to support it. The team at Galway Hospice provide excellent care in homes every day, throughout Galway city and county. The contributions by our employees collectively ensure that foundations as essential as The Galway Hospice are able to continue providing such an important service.”

Sean O’Healy, CEO of the Galway Hospice has called upon major employers in Galway to consider facilitating the Staff Payroll Deduction Scheme for the Weekly Draw.

“Galway Hospice, and the patients for whom we care, need your support now, more than ever. Due to the ever-increasing demand on services, we are appealing to the major employers in Galway to facilitate a staff payroll deduction scheme for the Galway Hospice Weekly Draw. It is simple to set-up the scheme and simple to join.”

Employees from Galway Hospice and Boston Scientific joined together last night (Wednesday October 23 ) at Boston Scientific in Ballybrit, to unveil a plaque commemorating reaching €1,000,000 in donations.
