Magnificent property auction

“The best and most exciting auction of the year,” was how people who regularly attended described O’Donnellan & Joyce’s auction last Friday. The agents placed three properties up for sale by public auction on Friday last. The regular venue which is The Harbour Hotel was packed to capacity with a large number of people unable to get into the auction room and transferring their bids from the hallway.

The first property to be placed for auction was a three bedroom end of terrace residence at No 1 St Bridgets Terrace it was purchased before the auction by a canny investor who didn’t want the property to go into the auction room and paid an undisclosed price for it prior to auction. Solicitor with carriage of sale: Ms Anne Kennedy, Bruen Glynn solicitors, Tuam, Co Galway.

The second property to be placed for sale was an executor sale Rockboro, 24 Kingston Road, Galway, which belonged to one of Galways most eminent paediatricians’ Professor McNicholl. The property, a four bedroom detached residence built in the early 1960s was in need of some modernisation.

With an AMV of €850,000 there was excellent interest in the property and intense bidding with three people trying to secure the property until auctioneer Colm O’Donnellan dropped the gavel at €890,000. The property was purchased by a well known Galway solicitor Gerry O’Donnell for a delighted client. Solicitor for the sellers was Mr Paddy Daly, Claffey & Daly.

The third property to be auctioneed was No 3 Upper Fairhill Road, The Claddagh. The auctioneers outlined that in terms of interest there is no place like the Claddagh. Bidding commenced at €150,000 and with 12 different bidders and a record number of bids for any property, it was purchased by a very shrewd young solicitor Mr Greg Lucas of Blake & Kenny, for his elated clients who are going to refurbish the house and live in it.

O’Donnellan & Joyce’s next auction will be in February, 2009, where they are actively looking for properties in good locations for a large number of buyers which they currently have on their books.
