Galway Ladies face fancied Monaghan

Galway and Monaghan clash on Saturday for a place in the All-Ireland Senior Ladies Football Championship final.

Last year’s league winners Monaghan will start as favourites when the two sides meet in Kingspan Breffni Park at 4pm, and Galway will have to be at their best to deny the Ulster outfit.

Both sides eased through their quarter-final jousts with Galway overcoming Tyrone by 2-20 to 2-5, while Monaghan racked up four goals in their 4-21 to 0-4 demolition of Laois.

Monaghan, on the back of four Ulster titles and having lost two finals in 2011 and 2008, are fancied, and they possess a strong scoring threat up front in Ciara McAnespie, Cathriona Mc Connell and top scorer Caoimhe Mohan. However Barry Downey has his Galway ladies in fine form after steady progress throughout the season with a league final outing against Kerry and another victory over Mayo in the Connacht final, Galway also have a scoring presence with Annette Clarke, Edel Concannon, Loran Joyce and Roisin Leonard. Crucially Galway have shown great resolve in the past, and they might need it again on Saturday.
