Midlake to play Róisín Dubh in August

ALTHOUGH THEY began as jazz students, Midlake eventually pioneered a kind of 1970s styled, west-coast Americana, which paved the way for Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver.

The Texan quintet play the Róisín Dubh on Monday August 12 at 9pm where they will perform songs from their albums Bamnan and Silvercork (2004 ), the excellent The Trials of Van Occupanther (2006 ), and the much acclaimed The Courage Of Others (2010 ), as well as songs from their forthcoming album, due for release later this year.

Van Occupanther got fans, bloggers, and musicians checking out Fleetwood Mac, America, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, and Bread while The Courage of Others looked towards British folk for its inspirations.

Band leader Tim Smith said of their constantly evolving sound: “I’m never satisfied with what we do, so when Occupanther came out I had changes I wanted to make...We’re listening to more music and getting more confident with who we are as musicians and as a band. It’s a natural progression to get to The Courage Of Others. Although it did take a long time and that’s due to my influences and falling in love with a different style of music to what we came from.”

Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, from the Ticket Desk at OMG, Shop Street (formerly Zhivago ), and The Róisín Dubh.
