An Spidéal to benefit from multi-million euro sewerage scheme

Planning permission has been granted for a €3.64 million new Wastewater Treatment Plant and Pumping Station for the An Spidéal area.

Approval for the works was granted by the Environment Minister Phil Hogan under the Department of Environment’s Water Services Investment Programme 2010 – 2013.

The approval has been welcomed by Connemara Fine Gael councillor Seosamh Ó Laoi, who said the treatment plant will be “essential for improving the quality of water in the Spiddal locality”.

He is now calling on the Galway County Council to begin the design stage and contract preparation for the project in advance of the public tendering process.

“The investment is much needed,” he said. “The environmental benefits will be of major importance for our local beaches in regaining Blue Flag status as well as providing the local communities with the most up-to-date wastewater facilities.”
