Kenneth Webb - the timeless artist

KENNETH WEBB first walked into Kenny’s on High Street in 1953, starting a partnership which has endured between artist and gallery for 60 years.

To mark this association, the Kenny Gallery, Liosbán, will host the exhibition Webb - Timeless, which opens tomorrow at 6pm. The guest speaker will be Kathleen Villiers-Tuthill.

Those 60 years has seen various phases in Webb’s work - his Forest of Dean pictures, his County Down farmhouses and harbours; the thorn trees, tidewrack, and poppies of the 1960s; bog paintings, the waterlilies of eighties and nineties; and the landscape around his home in Ballinaboy of more recent years.

What has not changed is his passion for painting and his use of colour. Colour for Webb is an all embracing experience which pervades his work, and he constantly experiments with his own freer ideas and personal concepts, using direct colour in a subjective, expressionist, manner.

Gallery opening hours are 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Saturdays. The exhibition runs until August 8.
