Galway Pro-Choice to hold public march this Saturday

Galway Pro-Choice is set to hold a march demanding the repeal of the State’s Constitutional ban on abortion and calling on the Government’s proposed X-Case legislation to “fully respect the rights of women”.

The march takes place this Saturday with an assembly in Eyre Square at 3pm. There will be speeches by award-winning journalist and columnist Colette Browne; Sinead Kennedy of Action on X; retired nurse Helen Murphy, in her official capacity as SIPTU equality officer and ICTU women’s officer; and Rachel Doyle of the National Women's Council of Ireland.

Galway Pro-Choice spokesperson Órlaith Reidy said: “Any legislation put forward to deal with the X-Case must ensure that suicidal women can avail of abortion with little difficulty. Legislation must also ensure that fatal foetal abnormality is a ground for abortion, so women are spared the horror of being trapped in a pregnancy which will inevitably end in tragedy
