Acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter Mick Flannery and the West Cork Ukulele Orchestra have been added to the bill for Josh Ritter’s Galway Arts Festival Big Top concert.

Corkonian Flannery has been described as “a singing and songwriting force to be reckoned with” by The Irish Times, while Urban Folk, said, “His voice is pained, gravelly and powerful. Recorded or live, it carries through and stops you in your tracks”. His influences are Nirvana, Tom Waits, and Boy Dylan.

Flannery’s debut album was Evening Train, while his second, White Lies achieved a top-10 position on the Irish albums chart, went double platinum, was nominated for the Choice Music Prize. His third album, last year’s Red to Blue reached number one, and also went double platinum.

The West Cork Ukulele Orchestra has nine members and plays the music of Talking Heads, Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, and The Cure on the ukulele.

The concert, which is a ‘Galway Arts Festival and Róisín Dubh presents...’ takes place on Saturday July 20. Tickets are on sale from galwayartsfestival .com, roisindubh.net, and ticketmaster.ie, and from Ticketmaster outlets nationwide. Full programme details will be announced on Wednesday May 29.
