Galway’s Moonfish Theatre company wins BBC award

Galway’s Moonfish Theatre company has won the BBC Northern Ireland Irish Language Theatre Award for its bi-lingual show Tromluí Phinocchio/Pinocchio - a Nightmare.

The award was presented to NUI Galway PhD student Máiréad Ní Chróinín by Uachtarán na hÉireann Michael D Higgins at the award ceremony in the Abbey Theatre on Tuesday evening.

Máiréad is co-director, with her sister Ionia, of Moonfish Theatre. Tromluí Phinocchio premiered in Galway in March 2012, and went on to have successful runs in the Dublin Fringe Festival before touring nationally in March this year. The show was produced by Kate Costello, who teaches on the NUIG BA Connect programme.

The show will return to Galway for the Baboró International Children's Festival in Galway in October.
