New location for NUIG bottlebanks

The recycling bottle-banks at NUI Galway, previously situated near Áras na MacLeinn, have been reinstalled, but at the new location of the university’s Buildings Office.

The bottle banks had been removed some time ago, but Labour city councillor Billy Cameron has sought to have them reinstated on the campus.

“Given the importance of every piece of recycling infrastructure in the city I felt it important not to lose what was a well used facility,” said Cllr Cameron. “I pointed out that they were widely used by people living in close proximity to NUIG and were sorely missed as the nearest other banks were at the Westside Sports Complex.”

The new location for the bottle banks is to the rear of both the Corrib Rowing and Yachting Club and the Jes Rowing Club and opposite the Orbsen building of NUIG. Access by car can be obtained via Distillery Road while pedestrian access is widely available from various entrances at Lower Newcastle and University Road. — KA
