Galway drama groups carrying the county flags into All-Ireland next week

Two of Galway's top amateur drama groups will carry the Galway flag when they both perform at the All Ireland Confined Drama Final in Rossmore, West Cork next week.

Claregalway/Carnmore's Compántas Lir are first on stage on Wednesday night (April 24 ) when they stage their awardwinning production of the Niall Williams classic The Way You Look Tonight.

The play ran in An Taibhdhearc last week for three nights and the entire run was sold out with tickets gone well in advance. To meet demand, they have agreed to stage one more performance this Sunday April 21 at An Taibhdhearc and some tickets are left for this performance. Contact the An Taibhdhearc ticket office at 091 562024.

Compántas Lir will be joined in the finals by the Glenamaddy Players who qualify for the All Ireland Confined Finals in Rossmore, West Cork with their production of Moment by Deirdre Kinahan.

The play is a gripping tragic tale set in Dublin in present time. It tells the story of a family torn apart by the criminal act of murder in their home, fourteen years earlier. The perpetrator of the crime is the only son of the Lynch family. The theme of the play reflects the all too frequent occurrence of such domestic tragedy in our country and in every case families are left to carry the pain as they struggle to get on with life.

Glenamaddy Players stand on a long tradition of performance and festival spanning many years and are honoured to do Glenamaddy proud when they take to the stage at the confined Rossmore Finals on Saturday 27th April.

They will also be warming up for the finals in Cork by staging two performances in their home theatre next week.

Moment will be performed on Wednesday and Thursday next (April 24 and 25 ) in the Town Hall Theatre, Glenamaddy at 8pm.
