Galway Baroque Singers in concert

THE GALWAY Baroque Singers and the ConTempo Quartet will perform Haydn’s The Seven Last Words of Christ in the Augustinian Church, Middle Street.

Haydn wrote the work for a Good Friday service, with the seven meditations drawn from the four gospels. The instruments translate the text into musical form, with a dramatic conclusion representing the death of Christ on the cross and subsequent earthquake.

The Galway Baroque Singers, celebrating its 30th anniversary and under the direction of Audrey Corbett, will also perform works by Allegri, Pergolesi, Bach, Whitaker, MacMillan, and choruses from Handel’s Messiah.

The concert takes place at 8pm on Wednesday March 27.
