New Peugeot 208 is the leader of the pack

The new and economical Peugeot 208 takes pride of place as segment leader for low CO2 emissions.

The only model in the small car B1 segment out of a total of 29 to deliver both petrol and diesel vehicles at sub-100g of CO2, the new 208 offers up to 3.8 litres/100km (or 74mpg ) and emissions as low as 87g/CO2.

Des Cannon, Peugeot sales and marketing director, says: “With Budget 2013 approaching, it is widely expected motorists will pay more VRT and annual road tax in the New Year when purchasing their new car. The new Peugeot 208 is the only model in the B segment that delivers both petrol and diesel models at the new sub-100g CO2 benchmark. With VRT and road tax linked to CO2 emissions, the new 208 is uniquely placed to incur minimal increases in Budget 2013.”

The new 208, destined to become a star seller for Peugeot like its predecessors, the 206 and 207 models, is now available to order at Peugeot dealerships nationwide. Retailing from €14,495 plus delivery related charges, standard equipment across the range for Ireland includes a full size spare wheel, ESP and cruise control and speed limiter.

The 208 hatchback range will be followed by a GTi version later in the spring and a compact crossover model, the 2008, will arrive in the summer after a world debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 5.

The 2013 Continental Irish Car of the Year awards were announced back in November, and the 2013 Irish Small Car of the Year went to the new Peugeot 208. It is also shortlisted for the 2013 World Car of the Year and European Car of the Year awards.

New Peugeot brand ambassador

Super World Rally Championship winner 2012, Waterford man Craig Breen, will race in eight European Rally Championship events this year and has landed the new Peugeot Sport Factory Rally Driver title.

On the announcement from Peugeot Sport, Craig Breen said: "This is incredible and beyond my dreams. I am really excited to work with a manufacturer like Peugeot Sport."

Breen has also contributed to the development of the Peugeot 208 R2, and he drove the "zero car" at the Ulster Rally in 2012. Peugeot Sport has confirmed 56 orders for the Peugeot 208 R2 across 14 countries, including one unit destined for Ireland later this month. Tipperary man Andrew Slattery will run the car in six events here in Ireland in 2013.

Meanwhile rally ace Breen, who is also the Irish International Driver of the Year 2012, has taken delivery of a new Peugeot 208 to celebrate his appointment as a brand ambassador for Peugeot Ireland. The new Peugeot 208 Active 1.4 HDi is the perfect partner to the young star. An award winner itself, the stylish new Peugeot 208 is currently Irish Small Car of the Year 2013 and directly contributed to a seven per cent market share growth for Peugeot in January.

Retailing from €14,785 plus dealer delivery related charges, Peugeot’s newly launched 208 comes with five years peace of mind motoring.
