Corinthians must maintain winning momentum

Corinthians can take another big step in gaining division one status next season when they head to Limerick to face Old Crescent on Saturday (2.30pm ).

This contest also doubles as the Ken Dolan Memorial Trophy, an annual competition between the two sides, but Corinthians will be concentrating on reclaiming top spot in the the division 2A league against a side currently occupying 12th position.

Last weekend Corinthians edged their encounter with lowly Bective Rangers by 12-10 at Donnybrook - the only score in the first half coming from the hosts who scored an excellent try by winger Ian Cullane after five minutes, converted by outside centre Barry Lynn.

Howevever Corinthians seized the initiative in the second half to record an important win.

A driving maul led by prop Mark Byrne and Finlay Bealham set up field position before the backs sent the ball wide with winger Darin Classen finishing off. Mick O’Flynn added the extras to level the scores before Bective hit the lead again when Lynn converted a penalty. Under pressure for long periods in the last quarter, eventually Corinthian hooker Kevin O’Byrne won a ball against the head, allowing his side to set up field position before a turnover from scrum and a quick recycle resulted in Classin diving over for the winning score.
