Grizzly Bear to play Galway Arts Festival

GRIZZLY BEAR, one of the most outstanding indie-rock bands at work today, play the Galway Arts Festival Big Top in the Fisheries Field on Friday July 19.

This will be the Galway debut of the Brooklyn based band - Chris Bear, Ed Droste, Daniel Rossen, and Chris Taylor - in what is a Róisín Dubh and arts festival co-presentation.

The Independent described Grizzly Bear’s live performances as events of “sweeping scale and mysterious beauty”, while The Guardian described their concert performances as “mesmerising”.

The quartet have released a number of albums since 2002, but came to wide notice with 2009’s Veckatimest, while its majestic track ‘Two Weeks’ appeared on the soundtracks of many TV shows and films.

The band outstripped that achievement last year though with the magnificent Shields album. A commercial and artistic triumph, Shields made Pitchfork’s Top 10 albums of the year and Rolling Stone’s Top 30 Albums of 2012.

It was also the Galway Advertiser album of 2012: “Superior to Veckatimest, this epic mixture of indie, prog, folk, and classical is the quartet’s, and arguably this year’s, most ambitious and finest album.”

Tickets are €33.50 from www.galwayartsfestival.com, www.roisindubh.net, www.ticketmaster.ie, and Ticketmaster outlets nationwide.
