Young people sought for arts group in Galway

YOUNG PEOPLE aged between 15 and 24, who have a keen interest in the arts, are being sought by the Galway Arts Centre to take part in its Red Bird Youth Collective.

Red Bird Youth Collective is a visual art group for young people living in Galway city and county. Its mission statement is to be a youth group run by youths that endeavours to encourage and support creativity for young people in the surrounding community.

Those who get involved will learn the basics of art making, administration for the arts, event management, curation, and work with professionals from visual art, architecture, and film, through weekend workshops.

In the New Year, the group will work on a project entitled Shaping Space with artist and architect Blaithin Quinn. The project will explore the West End of Galway city and the potential for space for young people and creative projects. Emphasis is placed on encouraging audiences to engage with Galway’s architecture. Shaping space will culminate in an exhibition and seminar in Nuns Island Theatre in March.
