Councillors visit construction site for Knocknacarra Community Centre

The long awaited Knocknacarra Community Centre at the Cappagh Park is becoming a reality, with city councillors this week visiting the construction site.

Following the signing of the building contract between the Galway City Council and Purcell Construction Limited last April, the construction of the new community centre has continued “at full steam”, according to Independent councillor Catherine Connolly.

“Many people in Knocknacarra thought that they would never see this day,” she said, “after a very long and contentious history spanning three local elections, five different city managers, and four different locations.”

She said that “it was a long and tortuous journey, but the fight was worth every inch now that the community centre is actually under construction.

The centre is due to be completed in the first half of 2013.
