NUI,Galway graduate named as RTE’s new Western correspondent

RTÉ has announced the appointment of reporter Pat McGrath as its new Western correspondent. Pat began his broadcasting career in 1994 with Clare FM where he worked for more than five years.

He joined RTÉ in 1999, first working as a journalist in Lyric fm and then moving to RTÉ 2fm News in 2002.

He was a reporter on the 2fm Newsbeat programme for several years and joined the Morning Ireland team in early 2010. Pat will be based in Galway.

He is a graduate of NUI, Galway where he studied Arts and Applied Communications.

In January, RTE Galway will be moving to studios based at the GMIT campus at Cluain Mhuire. As part of overall regional restructuring by the state broadcaster, Nuacht staff have moved from Donnybrook to Connemara. From January Nuacht Radio will broadcast from Casla, which will also be the base from where the first-ever Irish language online unit will operate.
