Celebrate Irish seafood and Spanish cava this month

Cava Spanish Restaurant on Dominick Street is among 10 restaurants around the country taking part in a nationwide initiative by the Spanish Embassy to promote November as the month for enjoying Irish seafood and Spanish cava.

The initiative, Cava and Sea Tapas Month, will take place throughout November in collaboration with three Irish wine importers.

Restaurants around the country are taking part in the month-long celebration of the marriage between cava and Irish fish and seafood. The aim is to educate consumers about Irish seafood and fish, give people an opportunity to try the Spanish sparkling wine cava, and highlight local restaurants.

Vinostito is the winemaker which has teamed up with Cava Spanish Restaurant and Tapas Bar to offer its premium cava, Maria Cassanova. The Vinostito cava will be paired with seafood tapas including a choice of scallops, mussels, squid, seafood croquettes, and pickled mackerel.

“The match of cava and seafood has always been one at the forefront of our philosophy in the restaurant,” said Jp McMahon of Cava restaurant. “Spanish sparkling wine and Irish seafood are a brilliant match. They complement each other and show us the connections between Ireland and Spain. The Spanish Embassy is keen to highlight both the underestimated Spanish cava as a beverage with the delicate balance of fresh Irish seafood. As we push towards eating smaller plates in restaurants [tapas-style eating], a glass of cava as an aperitif or with your food really showcases the wonderful experience of matching specific food and wines.”

The seafood and cava promotion will run throughout November in Cava Spanish Restaurant and Tapas Bar. Customers can choose from one tapa and a glass of cava (€10 ), two glasses and a tapa (€15 ), or three glasses of cava and three tapas (€30 ).
