Tough opening for Galway’s new u-21 side

The combined NUIG-Corinthians u-21 rugby team created history on Saturday with its first foray in the South/West u-21 League on Saturday.

Their visiting opponents Garryowen, however, proved too strong for the new Galway oufit, and completely dominated the game, and led by 25 - 3, with the home side’s only points coming from the boot of outhalf Daithi Joyce.

The well drilled Dooradoyle outfit ran in six more tries in the second half to win handsomely. The Galway side, however, never gave up and got in for their only try at a late stage in the contest, scored by centre Craig Joyce. Their next fixture is away to Buccaneers on October 20.

NUIG/Corinthians: B Dixon, G Clarke, C Joyce, L Keane, A O’Brien, D Joyce, J Gallagher, D O’Deasmhunagh, S Casburn, R Molloy, E Power, M Sale, A Glynn, C Carthy, D McNelis.
