Sample the hurling final fever with a family fun day at at the Oyster Festival Marquee

As festival fever builds ahead of the 58th Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival, join Galway’s biggest supporter party at the festival marquee on Sunday for the final day of the 2012 celebrations and to cheer-on the highly anticipated All-Ireland Senior Hurling replay between The Tribesmen and the Cats.

The game will be screened live across the marquee with a full afternoon of entertainment organised for GAA fans, seafood-lovers and all the family!

Martin Shanahan, star of RTE’s Surf n’ Turf will meet with festival goers and judge the inaugural ‘TABASCO® Hot Oyster Awards’ cooking challenge at the fully seated Chef’s Theatre from 1pm-3pm at the festival marquee.

Contestants include; Mariusz Wolosewicz of Brasserie on the Corner, Jonathan Keane of Lisloughrey Lodge, James Gallagher of the Malt House, Martin O’Donnell of The Twelve Hotel, Mark Campbell of Artisan, and JP McMahon of Cava Tapas Restaurant.

The challenge is to create a cooked oyster dish, using their own unique flair! The winner will walk away with the accolade of the TABASCO® Hot Oyster Award champion, a professional set of chef’s knives – ever the culinary dream and will also go forward as Galway’s entry in the National Chowder Competition next May.

Enjoy demonstrations from an impressive line-up of award winning chefs, cheer on the contestants at the Irish Coffee Making competition, and sample the mouth-watering seafood dishes at the Food Village from Artisan, Cava Spanish Tapas, Kelly Oysters, RAW Sushi, and WEST at The Twelve, which will be open from 12-4pm.

Watch the oyster sailing race on Galway Bay, with crews vying for the title of King of the Bay! Party the afternoon away with a fantastic line-up of entertainment including the West Coast Big Band and Tightrope.

For the kiddies.. Explore the touch pools from Galway Atlantaquaria, get creative for the marine-themed fancy dress competition, enjoy face painting and have some fun with the giant family games all from 12pm-3pm. Children under 12 years go free and tickets for adults cost only €15 per person.
