Michael Faherty to launch new poetry collection

POEMS, THE debut collection of Michael Faherty, will be launched in Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop on Friday October 5 at 6pm, by the Galway city arts officer James Harrold.

Michael was born in Birmingham to Irish parents in 1952, before moving to Dublin in the 1960s. His enjoyed a career in fashion on Bond Street in London and over the years has written many poems - now gathered together for the first time.

Poems is the first collection released by the newly-established publishing house, Amit Mediratta Publications, founded by Galway-based artist and poet Amit Mediratta.

“The idea for the book came about when Michael invited me to explore his archives,” explains Amit. “I spent an evening sifting through mounds of paper, and was astounded by his craft. I spent the summer editing his poems resulting in a book that reads like a psychedelic rock album, interjected by memoirs, letters, and reflections on rural Ireland. The poems themselves stylistically resemble American modernism, though set in a distinctly Irish context.”

All are welcome to the launch.
