Burglary accused sent forward for trial

A 20-year-old man charged in connection with a burglary at a city centre apartment has been sent forward for trial.

The Galway District Court heard on Monday how the book of evidence had been served on Steven Carew with an address at Flat B, 188 Lurgan Park, Murrough, Galway, and formerly of 46 Hugh Hession Road, The Glebe, Tuam, who is charged with burglary at an apartment at Cuirt Eanna, Long Walk, Galway, on September 24, 2011.

Inspector Brendan Carroll told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to the accused being sent forward for trial at Galway Circuit Criminal Court.

Judge Mary Fahy then made an order for the accused to be returned for trial for next sittings which commence on October 4 next.

The matter had been refused jurisdiction at a previous court sitting and referred back to the DPP for further consideration.
