Gardaí warn of fundraising fraud in Knocknacarra

Gardaí have warned householders to beware of bogus charity collectors following incidents of fraudsters collecting money door to door in Knocknacarra.

It is understood the alarm was raised when management at the Westside Resource Centre became aware that someone was selling lines in Knocknacarra, claiming to be doing so to raise funds for the centre. The gardaí were contacted and an investigation is under way.

A Garda spokesperson advised people to always ask for a permit when collectors call. “People collecting should have a permit granted by the Garda superintendent and people should ask for it,” he added.

The Westside Resource Centre manager, James Coyne, advised householders to contact the gardaí immediately if they encountered bogus collectors.
