Charity fundraiser in memory of Christy O’Meara

A special fundraiser in aid of Chernobyl Aid Ireland (Galway ) will take place next Saturday in memory of a Galwegian charity volunteer.

Christy O’Meara (Deano ), who died unexpectedly last year, was a regular volunteer who spent many summers working in an orphange with the Irish charity.

Now his wife Marie and friends are organising a special hurling match and table quiz to celebrate Christy’s memory which will take place in Castlegar Sports Complex on Saturday September 1.

The evening will kick off at 6.30pm with an over 40s hurling exhibition match between Castlegar and Oranmore/Maree, to be followed by a bumper table quiz at 8.30pm and music from Pulse till late.

Christy’s wife Marie says the Ballybane native was a “ kind and wonderful person who along with other local tradesmen went to Belarus volunteering on many occasions, offering his blocklaying and DIY skills, for the benefit of others”.

“Chernobyl Aid Ireland was a charity close to his heart,” she says.

Entry to the hurling match is €5 which will also include entry to a draw for two All Ireland Hurling Championship final tickets. The table quiz is €10 per person.
