Galway schools to get 100mbs broadband by October

Galway’s secondary school should have 100 mbs broadband access by October, allowing pupils higher speed broadband internet access than before.

The news was confirmed this week by the Minister for Communications, Pat Rabbitte, following a parliamentary question tabled by Galway West TD Seán Kyne.

“High speed broadband internet access has become an invaluable tool for education which supports teachers and enhances the learning experience,” said Dep Kyne. “It’s vital that the opportunities and benefits which Information Technology can bring are available to all schools regardless of their geographic location.”

Following agreement with the Government departments concerned, and the National Centre for Technology in Education, and the examination of tenders, it is hoped work will begin soon in order to meet the October deadline.
