Reverse the rent cap meetings to be held in city

The Reverse the Rent Cap group has organised a number of localised meetings throughout Galway city next week.

Some 4,600 people in the Galway region will be affected by these new lower rent thresholds and the group hopes to appeal to all those who have thus far quietly struggled in attempts to find appropriate accommodation within these new rent caps.

There will be a meeting in the Ard Family Resource Centre, Doughiska on Tuesday, a meeting in the Westside Resource Centre on Wednesday, and a final meeting in the Ballybane Resource Centre on Thursday June 21, all starting at 8pm.

Campaign spokesperson and Sinn Féin senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh is appealing for all those affected by this measure to attend the meetings.

“We must unite in our opposition to this measure and ensure it receives the deserved public and media attention,” he said. “Reverse The Rent Cap group is a non-party political alliance and we desperately need a committed body of people willing to stand in opposition and be vocal in nature.”

Those who support the campaign can sign the online petition at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/reversetherentcap/. For further details on the Reverse The Rent Cap Campaign see www.reversetherentcap.com or call Anna on 085 - 8217998.
