Avoid the soccer with The Same Old Story at the Crane

DO YOU feel that everywhere you go you cannot escape mention of Euro 2012? For people not in thrall to the ‘beautiful game’ the Cabaret Cafe present the The Same Old Story, a theatre piece, at the Crane Bar on Sunday June 10 at 7pm.

Yes, this is at the same time as Ireland’s opening match, but this special performance will cater for soccer widows (and widowers ).

The Same Old Story is a play by writer and humorist Gerry Conneely, focusing on themes of life, love, and sexual politics. Set in a restaurant, we meet two couples; Katie and Conor, who are in the first flush of love, and Frank and Maggie, an older couple who are contemplating divorce.

Moving as well as funny, the script underscores the differences between the genders. For fans of musical theatre, the audiences are treated to renditions of jazz classics such as ‘As Time Goes By’, ‘I Want to be Loved by You’, ‘A Fine Romance’ and more performed by cast members Malika McCarthy, Eoghan Burke, and Deirdre Cunningham.

The play is fresh from its outing at Fleadh na gCuach, where it received high praise from audiences.

So if the idea of watching 22 men kicking a ball around a field seems like torture, make your way down to The Crane on Saturday night. You are in for a treat. For more information and tickets contact The Crane on 091 - 587419 or see www.thecranebar.com
