Javanese music workshop at Galway City Museum

The Galway City Museum will hold a workshop on how to play the bronze percussion instruments of Java, known collectively as the gamelan, this weekend.

Local group 'Gamelan na Gaillimhe, featuring members of the Brothers of Charity, Galway, will be joined by international gamelan experts for performances and workshops this Saturday from 11.30am.

Gamelan na Gaillimhe will encourage members of the public to try their hand at this instrument, under the tutelage of Peter Smith, from the Oxford Gamelan Society and the Southbank Gamelan Players, London. Participation in the workshop is free of charge.
