Galway Insurance Institute elects new president

The Insurance Institute of Galway elected its 44th president at its AGM in Glenlo Abbey last week.

Derek Coffey, director at TILT in Ballybrit, was named as president. Mr Coffey, a married father-of-two, lives in Woodstock, Galway.

The IIG meeting also saw its first conferral ceremony for those who graduated with various insurance qualifications throughout the year. The IIG would like to extend its congratulations to all graduates.

The Insurance Institute of Galway covers a gegraphical spread from Clare to Mayo and runs as far east as Offaly. It has some 800 member and is part of the Insurance Institute of Ireland, the industry’s professional body dedicated to maintaining and developing educational standards.

Other regional institutes in Ireland include Cork, Dublin, Limerick and Sligo. The III works closely with the industry and regulator to deliver training to staff within the insurance sector.

The body also provides Continuing Professional Development courses, with the aim of ensuring insurance services provided to the general public are delivered with the highest standards and professionalism.

The newly elected council of the Insurance Institute of Galway for 2012/2013 are as follows: Derek Coffey (president ), Darragh Guinane (deputy president ), Hazel Morrison (vice president ), Rhonda Cribben (secretary ), Padraic Benson (honorary treasurer ), Peter Bennett (honorary education secretary ), Della Keane (CPD officer ), Jim Molloy, Paul McGrady, Gary Browne, Jean Boyd, Andrew Parkinson, Michael Gough, Laura Enright, Barbara Gilligan, Paul McDermott, Martin O’Connor and Karen Tyrrell.
